How To Give Your Kitchen and Bathroom Tiles A Spring Clean

Spring is in the air, and it’s time to start sprucing up your household! Brighter days and a little bit of sunshine is sometimes all it takes to give you that much-need motivation to deep clean those areas of your home that need some extra love, right down to your tiles. Check out our advice below to keep your tiles in tip-top condition.

Prepare Your Tiles

Before you start the deep cleaning process, we recommend preparing them by giving them a quick once-over with the vacuum cleaner or a microfibre mop or cloth. Once you’re sure that any surface dust or grit has been swept away, you’re ready to get cleaning!

Pick Your Cleaning Tools Wisely

Depending on your tiles, you will require different cleaning tools and cloths for the cleaning process. For wall tiles, we recommend a microfiber cloth, whilst for floor tiles, we suggest a chamois-style mop over a sponge or fabric-type mop. Not only will this prevent washing dirt into your grout joints, but it will also leave fewer streaks on polished tiles! If you’re unsure, we recommend checking with the retailer for the best cloth or tools for the job.

Don’t Neglect Your Grout

No matter how clean those tiles are, dirt and mould can quickly gather in your tile grout, impairing the look of the whole room. To help give your grout a new lease of life, a homemade solution of baking soda and vinegar can be used to create a paste, which is effective in cutting through dirt without causing damage. Simply apply the paste with a toothbrush or small paintbrush, leave for 15-30 minutes, rinse, and wipe clean with a microfibre cloth.

Work From Top To Bottom

If you have wall tiles, a splashback or a bathtub surround, be sure to start cleaning from the top down. Just like window cleaning, this increases the efficiency of your cleaning session, as you won’t have cleaning products dripping on your already cleaned areas. Sounds like common sense - but always worth the reminder!

Use The Right Products

For sparkling clean tiles, you need a high-quality cleaning product. Harsh chemicals have the potential to erode the surface layer of tiles, damage your grout and even loosen tiles, so beware of corrosive substances such as ammonia, bleach or acids.
